ABOUT US

The first New Ross Chernobyl Children's Bike Run took place on 13th June 1999 with 45 bikers taking part from Clonmel to New Ross raising €6,983.00. This event has grown and grown and successive bike runs took place in 2000, 2001, 2002 & 2003.

Little did the committee ever think at this early stage that in 2003 a whopping €27,122 would be raised with over 200 bikes taking part. The "Family" has certainly grown.

The concept of the Bike Run came as a direct result of funds being needed by New Ross Chernobyl Children's Project to fund their summer project. Children from the areas directly affected by the Chernobyl disaster spend a month long holiday in the New Ross Area hosted by local families.

An initial idea by Willie Harte of a "Bike Run" came to fruition when Alfie Lambert, Richard Rice & Billy Ryan got involved. This team along with their committee began to make plans and the response from the generous bikers was overwhelming.

As one onlooker remarked this year, as the 200 machines rolled across the Bridge in New Ross, "You would want to be made of steel not to be moved by this sight".

We hope to continue on with our Bike Run and our sixth annual run will take place again in June 2004. The exact date will be decided and will be posted on this web site.
